Once during each course, usually after three weeks of study, all students in the course are invited to gather on the campus of Newman University for an Intensive Weekend of study. These weekends are dedicated to course content requiring in-depth or additional explanation, and are also a time when guest speakers may be invited to address the cohort on a topic related to the course under study. Additionally, the Intensive Weekends provide an opportunity for face-to-face interaction with the course instructor and with the other members of the cohort, thereby deepening the sense of community and group cohesion. There are also opportunities for additional questions for the instructor as well as a time for field trips or group projects for the cohort.
Typically, the Friday evening session lasts from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Saturday session normally lasts from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All Intensive Weekend sessions are held in Eck Hall on the campus of Newman University. The schedule for the Intensive Weekends will be distributed at Orientation at the beginning of your program of study.
While all students in the cohort are invited to participate, we recognize that some students are unable to make it to the Newman campus. Students who are not able to attend the Intensive Weekend sessions are provided with online versions of the lectures, discussions, and other activities.
