Pre-Professional - Pharmacy

Earn a Pre-Pharmacy Degree

Take steps to build a foundation for future success in the pharmaceutical industry

The pre-pharmacy program at our prestigious private university is designed to give you the skills and knowledge necessary to enter medical school. We advise you to learn the admission requirements of the pharmacy school you plan to enter and then work with the pre-pharmacy advisors to fulfill those requirements. Meeting the requirements for acceptance into your ideal program is key to obtaining your dream career after graduation.

With one-on-one attention from the faculty, and the opportunity to shadow anywhere from 100-200 hours, you will gain a better understanding of the chosen medical field. Many of our students have majored in Biology or Chemistry/BioChemistry as a foundation degree.

About Our Faculty

Pre-Professional Pharmacy Department

Our faculty and staff have the knowledge and experience to help you prepare for a career in pharmacy. If you need clarification on a class assignment or advice on how to approach your future, you can feel confident that our faculty is available and ready to help.

Career Outlook

While pursuing a degree in pre-pharmacy, you can expect a promising future. The pharmacist field is projected to grow 12% between 2014 and 2024. Our students are prepared to meet the expected demand for pharmacists.

Careers

A degree in pre-pharmacy from Newman University will give you the opportunity to pursue further education and eventually work in a variety of fields and specialties. Here are some examples of potential careers and median salaries:

  • Clinical Pharmacist ($107,000 a year)
  • Drug Information Specialist ($61,900 a year)
  • Home Care Pharmacist ($109,000 a year)
  • Retail Pharmacist ($105,900 a year)

Internships

Our pre-pharmacy students have the opportunity to gain real-world experience by interning and shadowing in the Wichita community. This allows you to gain experience in pharmacies, clinical research programs, or other medical environments. We also take the time to conduct mock interviews for all of our students going into the medical field. This, along with shadowing and internships, helps you become well prepared for the most important interview of your life.

Get Involved on Campus

One of the best ways to find success during your college career is to get involved in campus clubs and organizations. Within our pre-pharmacy program, our students can join the Newman University Medical Professions Club (NUMPC), an organization of 200+ members that gives students of all pre-professional medical disciplines the opportunities for mentoring and community involvement (including mission trips). This organization allows for personal growth, networking, and future career success.

Program Outcomes

"I would definitely recommend Newman. I was an undergraduate student, and I stayed just because it’s worth any amount of money because you’re a person there. You get to know everyone. I know so many of the staff, the faculty, there’s nothing like it.”"

Krista Greenlee, Class of 2016

"The communication and teamwork, especially with my advisors, and having that small classroom size really helped me because it was one-on-one. They knew my name, and I wasn’t just a number."
