Federal Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant

The Federal TEACH Grant is different from other federal student grants because it requires you to take certain kinds of classes in order to get the grant, and then do a certain kind of job to keep the grant from turning into a loan.

The College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007 created the Federal TEACH Grant program, which will allow eligible students to be awarded up to $4,000 per year ($16,000 maximum for a four year program) in grants. Graduate students are eligible for up to $4,000 per year ($8,000 maximum limit).

Due to Sequestration:
*Any Federal TEACH Grants disbursed after October 1, 2020, and before October 1, 2024, are subject to a 5.7% reduction. Students are eligible for up to $3,772 per award year.

Who can get a Federal TEACH Grant?

  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Be accepted into Newman’s Education program and be enrolled in an eligible program.
  • Meet certain academic requirements (generally, scoring above 75% on a college admissions test or maintaining a cumulative G.P.A. of at least 3.25).

TO RECEIVE A FEDERAL TEACH GRANT, Complete these three easy steps:

  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  2. Complete Federal TEACH Grant counseling for each year before the grant is disbursed.
  3. Sign a "TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve" and respond to requests by the U.S. Department of Education confirming a continuing intention to meet the teaching obligation.
