The study of sociology examines the patterns and processes of interaction between people in diverse settings. Our courses sharpen the ability to evaluate social life and social issues with an analytical mind. You will be empowered to understand complex societal relationships and work towards enhancing the quality of life through creation and implementation of effective social programs. Sociology contributes to our private Catholic college's mission of preparing students to transform society.
Our program graduates have successfully transitioned from the classroom to job opportunities in agencies serving youth and families, programs serving elderly clients, and various components of the criminal justice system. Additionally many graduates have continued their education in graduate programs.

Success Story — Yanley Rocha, Class of 2013
Yanley Rocha chose to attend Newman University because it was “close to home, but you are still able to have the college experience.” She double majored in sociology and criminal justice, and minored in pre-law. In addition to her studies, Yanley was an ASC Community Scholar and was the student president of the Newman Hispanic American Leadership Organization. Yanley was recognized for her community service and other achievements when she received the Hispanic Rising Star Award from the Wichita Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in 2011. We know Yanley has a bright future ahead of her.
