Trauma Social Work Practice

The Master of Social Work - Trauma Competent Practice Focus program offers a new and cutting-edge curriculum with a concentration in Trauma Competent Practice. This specialty focus is based on a growing paradigm shift, often referred to as Trauma-Informed Care, which has evolved over the past 30 years as a result of the convergence of research, clinical practice and the perspective of trauma survivors.

Course Delivery

The MSW Trauma Competence Practice Focus offers two course delivery curriculum requirements: Traditional and Advanced Standing. The Traditional curriculum path is for MSW students entering without a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree and the Advanced Standing path is for MSW students who already have a BSW.

All traditional programs start in the fall semester.

The Master of Social Work - Advanced Standing program offers a shortened curriculum path to those who already hold a Bachelor of Social Work degree from a CSWE-accredited program and who otherwise qualify.  Advanced Standing students must complete 34 credit hours to earn the Master of Social Work degree. Courses emphasize clinical topics and trauma competent practice.  Advanced Standing students may start the MSW program in either the summer or fall semester.
