Are you an interdiscplinary enthusiast? If so, Biochemistry could be the right degree for you!
Students who have a keen interest in biological theory and applications, but also excel at chemistry and mathematics, find Biochemistry to be a wonderful mix of all three subjects. Biochemistry is an interdisciplinary field that bridges biology and chemistry, focusing on biomolecules like proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, and carbohydrates, which requires a good knowledge of both general and organic chemsitry. Students learn to analyze cellular processes, enzyme functions, and genetic regulation through the lens of chemical thermodynamics and kinetics.

"My experience and education at Newman have been nothing but exceptional. Getting to learn from professors who have either moved on to teach at medical schools or are adjuncts is a great benefit to all students who get to learn under them. The knowledge taught to us in the classes is very comparable to what I had to review and study for my MCAT, and being able to relate what I had already learned and using that as a guide for my exam was very valuable."
"I have loved my time at Newman. I have made so many good friends and learned so much from all my teachers and mentors. I have had many opportunities to learn new skills and hone old ones. Everybody here is rooting for you. Find faculty and staff and students to connect with. A good way of doing that is attending events, but it can also just be attending the professor’s office hours. It doesn’t have to be complicated."
It is no secret that Newman University’s science programs have prepared students well for their future careers in the medical field.
For years, junior and senior Jets have gained admittance into The University of Kansas School of Medicine (KU Med) directly from Newman, resulting in a natural pipeline of Jets to Jayhawks.
