Students planning to earn the Spanish minor are strongly encouraged to participate in our Guatemala Study & Serve program. This challenging and exciting cultural immersion experience expedites student development in language proficiency and cultural understanding, while also providing students with 7-9 credit hours of language study, local history, and culture.

    Get Involved on Campus

One of the best ways to find success during your college career is to get involved in campus clubs and organizations. Within our Spanish program, our students can study abroad with the Guatemala Study & Serve program and participate in Project SONRISA (giving children in Guatemala the gift of a healthy smile) and Project VITAMINA (helping families who are suffering from malnutrition).

"I realized biochemistry would be a good way to mix biology and chemistry and give me a good understanding of both aspects. I also minored in Spanish because I want to have less of a language barrier and interact better with patients. The healthcare administration concentration will help me open my own practice in the future and have an understanding of business. I feel a lot of my professors have been mentors. I probably wouldn't have made it to where I am without them."

"At Newman, I found academic and emotional support in a community that truly cares. Newman is a place that makes you feel like you are at home."
