    Alumni Awards

    The Newman University National Alumni Association bestowed the 2011 alumni awards to six alums during the Cardinal Newman Banquet and Awards Ceremony, Feb. 25, 2012 in the Dugan-Gorges Conference Center. Award recipients are shown in photos taken at the banquet.

    National Alumni Association President Tim Belsan ’05, with Clare Vanderpool ’88, Vanderpool’s daughter Lucy, and Alumni Relations Director Sarah Cundiff ’86, ’90. Vanderpool received the Leon A. McNeill Distinguished Alumna Award in the Arts and Humanities for her Newbery Medal-winning novel Moon Over Manifest.

    Newman President Noreen M. Carrocci, Ph.D., left, with Ami Angell ’99, Newman Alumni Relations Director Sarah Cundiff ’86, ’90, and John R. Pyles, M.D. ’76. Angell received the Spirit of Acuto Transformational Leadership Award for her work rehabilitating terrorists. Pyles was awarded the Beata Netemeyer Service Award for volunteering his medical services in war-torn Bosnia and following the Haiti earthquake.

    Front row, from left: Mary Agnes Brady Morley ’37, ’62, Mary Green Shults ’37, and Dorothy Vossen Adams ’37, ’61 received the St. Maria De Mattias Award for their service in establishing the Alumni Association and their lifetime devotion to their alma mater. With the three award recipients are National Alumni Association President Tim Belsan ’05 and Alumni Relations Director Sarah Cundiff ’86, ’90.
