Curriculum: The MSW program offers students a supportive and individual education in the classroom and in Field Education. Our cutting-edge trauma-competent curriculum prepares clinical, school, and administrative practitioners with the necessary trauma competencies to deliver high-quality, responsive services.

Program options:

  • 34 credits if you have an undergraduate degree in social work (BSW)
  • 62 credits if you have an undergraduate degree outside of social work
  • Full-time or Part-time

Course Delivery:

  • Courses are 8 weeks or 16-weeks long and taught on-campus and online formats
  • Classes are offered with a blend of classroom instruction, face-to-face activities, simulations, and field placements in the community.
  • The Newman University MSW program is offered at the Wichita main campus and beyond through our Online MSW program.

Advanced Standing

Undergraduate degree in social work from a program accredited by the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE).

Undergraduate degree in a major other than social work.

Tracks: Full-time, Part-time

Professional Licensure Disclosure

Newman University's Social Work Program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and meets the requirements to apply for licensing examinations in Kansas.

Please be aware that state requirements for licensure may vary, and it is the individual’s responsibility to comply with those requirements. Students who plan to practice in states outside Kansas are encouraged to contact their state’s social work licensing board to identify other requirements for licensure

As a diverse helping profession with career opportunities in multiple sectors, social workers are involved in helping individuals or groups cope with overcoming problems in their everyday lives. Licensed social workers are commonly responsible for assessing clients’ needs, developing improvement plans, referring clients to community resources, responding to crisis situations, and advocating for human rights.
