Dr. Stacy Jones is a Professor of Biology and has been teaching at Newman University since 2003. Dr. Jones is a creative, innovative instructor with a strong passion for teaching and a sincere desire to help her students succeed. Since coming to Newman University, she has updated and improved the courses she teaches by introducing interactive activities and developing new experiments to help make the subject matter interesting. She also strives in her classes to make complex concepts more accessible to her students without sacrificing the integrity or depth of the material. She desires to be a teacher that would inspire, encourage, educate and help students to grow and be prepared to be successful in their desired career.

Dr. Jones earned a bachelor’s degree with a combined biology-chemistry major from Southern Nazarene University in 1997, and a doctoral degree with an emphasis in physiology from the University of Oklahoma in 2003.

Dr. Jones’ expertise and commitment to teaching earned her the 2008 Newman University Teaching Excellence Award, an annual recognition to a full-time faculty member who has demonstrated an innovative or dynamic approach to courses, course revisions, and teaching techniques.

Areas of Expertise:

Dr. Jones has a taught in several areas of biology at Newman, including human physiology, genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, developmental biology, immunology, cell and molecular biology, bioethics on trial, and most recently General Biology 1 lecture and lab courses.

Research Interest:

Microbiology-related research projects, such as the investigation of probiotics and essential oils on microbial growth.

Affiliations / Community Leadership:

Former director of NUSOP (Newman University STEM Outreach Program) for high school students; continues to participate as a faculty member in ISSP & NSEP, which are programs apart of NUSOP.
