KICF Scholarships

Foundation 2018

Since its creation in 1952, Kansas Independent College Foundation (KICF) has sought to recognize students each academic year who demonstrate the commitment to excellence, virtue, and integrity, and who honor the myriad ways that students who attend KICF institutions receive an education that prepares them for a lifetime of success in their personal and, professional lives.

Each academic year, KICF will award the following scholarships:

  • Minority Student Scholarship - $1,000
  • First Generation Student Scholarship - $1,000
  • American Service Member Award - $1,000
  • “Better Life” Degree Completion Award - $1,000
  • Future Leaders in the Arts Scholarship - $750
  • Future Leaders in Business Scholarship - $750
  • Future Leaders in Education Scholarship - $750
  • Future Leaders in Faith Scholarship - $750
  • Future Leaders in Health Scholarship - $750

Students are eligible to be nominated for the scholarships provided they meet the following criteria:

  1. The student is enrolled as a full-time degree-seeking undergraduate student at a KICF member institution for the upcoming academic fall term, per the IPEDS definition of “full-time,” “degree-seeking,” and “undergraduate.”
    1. Exception #1: Part-time students may be nominated for the “Better Life” Degree Completion Award but must meet the other eligibility criteria.
    2. Exception #2: Graduate students may be nominated for the American Service Member Award or any “Future Leaders” Scholarship but must meet the other eligibility criteria.
  2. The student has earned at least fifty percent (50%) of the credit hours required to earn their degree as of June 30 prior to the award year.
  3. The student maintains a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  4. Scholarship Specific Criteria:
    1. Minority Student Scholarship: The student must be identified as non-white by the institution according to IPEDS reporting.
    2. First Generation Student Scholarship: The student must have indicated that his/her parents have “Less than a college degree” on the FAFSA.
    3. American Service Member Award: The student must be either an active-duty member of the United States armed services, a veteran of the United States armed services, or have successfully completed a full term of service in federally managed civilian community service program, such as the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps*VISTA, AmeriCorps* NCCC, or Senior Corps.
    4. “Better Life” Degree Completion Award: Must have transferred into the KICF institution or re-started at the KICF institution after a minimum of two-years of non-enrollment in higher education and must have previously earned at least thirty-seven point five (37.5%) of the credit hours required to earn their degree prior to his/her current enrollment period at the KICF institution.
    5. “Future Leaders” Scholarships: Must have declared a major in a discipline identified by the institution according to the qualifying CIP code. i. Arts: CIP codes 50.****
      1. Business: CIP codes 52.**** or 45.06**
      2. Education: CIP codes 13.****
      3. Faith: CIP codes 38.**** or 39.****
      4. Health: CIP codes 34.****, 42.****, 51.**** or 31.05**

To be considered for nomination of any of these scholarships, the following items need to be turned in to the Newman University Financial Aid Department by February 17, 2021.  

Incomplete applications will not be reviewed nor considered.  All documents must be turned in together to be accepted.

Recipients will be announced by April 1, 2021.  All awards will be disbursed in their entirety in August (prior to the start of the fall term).   Awards are not automatically renewable.
