Can Newman University serve as the recommending institution if some of the ESL courses have been taken at another institution?

Newman University can serve as the recommending institution for ESL Endorsement when two (of the required five) courses - including ESL Practicum - are Newman University courses.
To utilize this process: Complete an application for NU graduate study in a non degree program (at no cost). Make arrangements for an official transcript of previous ESL courses to be sent to Newman University. Contact Cindy Corn at NU in Wichita at cornc@newmanu.edu or call 316.942.4291, ext 2415 or Nancy Folkerts at in NU in Western Kansas at folkertsn@newmanu.edu or call 620.227.9616 to facilitate this process. This process would be a special advantage for those who would like to use ESL Endorsement courses as part of a M.S. Ed. Degree Program.

There are frequent questions about the transfer of courses into the NU program from institutions which require six (rather than five) courses in the ESL endorsement program. Some programs have expanded from five to six courses so that two courses (rather than a single course) can be provided in the areas of methods and materials. In this instance, either of these M/M courses can be accepted as a substitute for NU course EDUC 6133 (Teaching English as a Second Language).

Can Newman University ESL courses be used to obtain an ESL Endorsement Recommendation from another institution?

    To obtain a Newman transcript:
A transcript is a certified, official copy of a student's permanent academic record and cannot be released without the student's written consent. A transcript picked up by or sent directly to the student is stamped "Issued to Student". Some institutions will not accept a transcript that is marked "Issued to Student" even if it is in a sealed envelope. Each transcript costs $5.00 which is to be paid in advance by cash, check (payable to Newman University) or MasterCard/Visa/Discover. Faxed transcripts carry a fee of $8.00. A transcript order form can be obtained at http://newmanu.edu/attend-nu/registrar/transcripts. After completing, printing, and signing the request form, send it by mail or fax to the Registrar's Office, Newman University, 3100 McCormick, Wichita, KS 67213. FAX: 316-942-4483.

Can one obtain ESL Endorsement by “assessment only”?

Individuals who have taken less than the 5 prescribed courses, but have successfully completed the Praxis II “English to Speakers of Other Languages” test #20360 can apply online at http://www.ksde.org and select Form 22 when applying for the endorsement. The ESL endorsement to the License will read “Testing Only”.
