    Lazaro San Martin '71

    Sacred Heart College (1954-1972)
    Wanda "Rusti" (Ely) Carter age 75, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother died July 30, 2010.  She is survived by husband, Larry; daughters,  Teresa/Lazaro San Martin, Vanette/Mike Bell, Valerie Johnson, Vicki/Neal Hoelting; son Layne/Katy, son-in-law Steve Howell.  Sending our sympathy to the Carter family.  

    Rick Roder '86

    Kansas Newman College (1973-1998)
    Rick Roder, '86, was one of six men ordained to the permanent deacon by Bishop R. Walker Nickless at the Cathedral of the Epiphany, Sioux City, Iowa on May 1, 2010.  Rick celebrated his first Mass at his home parish, St. Mary's in Remsen, Iowa on May 2.  Newman alumnus Rev. Ned Blick, '86, homilist at the first Mass recalled the transformation that occurred in both their lives since their days at the Kansas Newman College.  You can hear his full homily here: Other Newman alumni...

    Brandon Pratt '10

    Newman University (1998-Present)
    Brandon Pratt has been accepted into the graduate program at Emporia State University.  His masters degree will be in Clinical Psychology.  It is a two year program and he received scholarships as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, so Brandon will teach two classes per semester while attending his own classes.  Good luck in school!

    John Rheem, Maria (Rheem) Marshall '80, Jim Rheem '71

    Sending sympathy to John Rheem, SHC's first Director of Development on the loss of his wife, Nadene on August 1, 2010.  Mrs. Rheem is also the mother of Maria Marshall and Jim Rheem.  Nadene, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend is survived by three sons and three daughters, and 14 grandchildren.

    Greta Heiman '09

    Newman University (1998-Present)
    Greta Heiman has joined United Bank & Trust as a real estate mortgage lender. She will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with existing and prospective clients.  The bank is located in Seneca, KS.  Greta and husband, Matt reside in Sabetha, KS.

    Javier Najera '90

    Kansas Newman College (1973-1998)
    Javier Najera has relocated to Kansas City, MO.  where he serves as a Commodity Trader for Muehlstein and Company, which is a Belgium based company.  His job title is account manager/trader.  Congratulations on your new position! 

    Marilyn Hartley '70

    Sacred Heart College (1954-1972)
    The mother of Marilyn Hartley, Zita E. (Lampe) May, died July 14, 2010 in Conway Springs, KS.  Zita at 86, was a loving mother, and grandmother who left behind six sons and nine daughters.  There are 56 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren.  What a legacy!  Sending our sympathy to the May family.

    Eric Leitzel '10

    Congratulations to our own Eric Leitzel who graduated with an MBA from NU in July 2010.  Eric was a member of the NU web and graphics team that just completed a redesign of the NU website, (the project leader was Charles Rasico '07, '08).  Eric has been employed at Newman University for about two years as the Web Coordinator and he and wife, Tina are members of St. Peters Church in Schulte.  Eric reflects "Newman's lifeblood is truly all the people that work hard, long...

    Congratulations to Jeff Messmer, who recently joined the GENESYS Corporation in Kansas City, MO.  Jeff has a 19 month old daughter, Jordyn and a wife named Kathy.  Lots of luck to you and your family Jeff!

    Aloysius J. May, brother of Sister Florence May, died July 13, 2010.  He is survived by his wife Vera (Coulter) May of 70 years.  Sending our sympathy to the May family from Conway Springs, KS.
