Sharon Niemann ’89

Kansas Newman College (1973-1998)
Wichita Business Journal honors Sharon Niemann as a health care educator and one of the 2012 Health Care Heroes. Niemann came to Newman University in 1999 after leaving Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth as their clinical director. In 2004 she was named the director of Newman University’s CRNA program.

Joe Childs

Joe and Pat Childs celebrate their 60th Wedding anniversary on December 23, 2012. The couple was united in marriage on December 27, 1952 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Wichita. For over 13 years Joe worked at Newman University in administration, serving in various capacities and in 2007 Joe retired.

Bob Wetmore

Newman Adjunct business instructor Bob Wetmore has been name Co Director for Great Plains Development, Inc. (GPDI). Wetmore has held the position as GPDI’s Associate Director and CDBG Certified Administrator for the past two years.

Kay (Lubbers) Martin '61

Sacred Heart College (1954-1972)
Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Adrian Martin,78, passed away on December 18, 2012. He leaves behind his wife; Kay (Lubbers) Martin; children, Joe, Mike (Lisa), Tom (Jo Ellen), Bill (Anne), John (Lisa) and Marie Elliot (Shawn); brother, Robert (Joan); sisters, Mary Ann Freund (Arlen), Sylvia Seiler (Leo), Bernadette Sanders (Bill), Theresa Sanders (Mike), Barbara Spexarth (Fred) and Carol Schauf (Fred); 27 grandchildren.

Ryan ’07 (Amy ’06) Huschka

Newman University (1998-Present)
Martin Huschka, 63, father of Assistant Professor of Chemistry Ryan Huschka, entered eternal life December 19, 2012. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Huschka; sons, Greg Huschka, Ryan (Amy) Huschka; daughter, Sister Sophia Grace Huschka; grandchildren, Issac Huschka and Eliana Huschka; brother John (Karen) Huschka.

Anna Sigg '37

Sacred Heart Junior College (1933-1952)
Retired nun and educator Anna Sigg, 96, passed away on December 26, 2012. She leaves behind her brother Julius and sister Bernadean Hoppis.

Opal Loux '47

Sacred Heart Academy (1945-1967)
On December 29, 2012 Opal Loux, 84, passed away. She leaves behind son, Richard (Jodi) Loux; daughters, Chrysa (Jim) Honeyman, Marilyn Loux-Brumley, Joan Whitney, Taylor Mill, Judy turner, Paula Weaver, 15 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. 

Dorothy McGinn '85

Kansas Newman College (1973-1998)
Beloved wife, mother, and Grandmother Dorothy McGinn, 81, passed away on Nov. 15, 2012. Dorothy received a BSN in nursing from Newman University. She has helped many positions in the medical field; Director of Nursing and Assistant Administrator at Halstead Hospital, Supervisor at Riverside Medical Center and staff nurse at the Veterans’ Administration Hospital in Wichita.  She is survived by her three daughters, Debbi (Jim) Elmore, Carleen (George) Currier, and Candi (Jerry) Young, seven...

J.T. Klaus '87

Kansas Newman College (1973-1998)
J.T. Klaus was selected as the Newman University St. Maria De Mattias Award and will receive his distinguish award at the Cardinal Newman Banquet in February. In the 1990’s Klaus helped played a key role in changing the institutions name and the NU logo design committee. He has been the president and a former member of the Newman University Alumni Association Board of Directors. Currently Klaus is an attorney with Triplett Woolf & Garreston, LLC.

Derek Harrison'05

Newman University (1998-Present)
Derek Harrison graduated from Wellington High School and played basketball at Kansas Newman University. Harrison has been given the position as the new Director for the Wellington Golf Course.
